The first round of Portugal Open 2020, the largest chess tournament in the country gathering 220 players from 34 different countries has already started at the Casal Vistoso Sports Complex, the top players have already some difficult matches in what will probably be a very competitive Open.
On the first board, the torunament top player, the Russian Grand Master Alexander Motylev (2640 Elo), has the black pieces against the US player Mustafa Atakay (1886). The other top boards are as follows:
Board 2- Aryan Tari (GM, 2635, Norway)-José Monteiro (1881, Portugal).
Board 3 – Júlio Santos (MN, 1880, Portugal)-Karen Grigoryan (GM; 2632, Armenia).
Board 4 – Evgeny Alekseev (GM, 2623, Russia)-Filipa Pipiras (1876, Portugal).
Board 5 – Hubert Twardowski (1875, Poland)-Aleksandar Indjic (GM, 2622, Serbia).
